Four promising Vietnamese MMA athletes are set to compete for medals at the inaugural Asian Mixed Martial Arts Youth Championship in Bahrain. Get to know the team and their quest for glory.

A new chapter in Vietnamese martial arts is being written as a team of four young MMA fighters heads to Manama, Bahrain, to compete in the first-ever Asian Mixed Martial Arts Youth Championship. The tournament, running from August 27 to 31, is a significant milestone for the sport, officially recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia.

This is a monumental opportunity for these talented athletes, as the championship also serves as a qualifying event for the 3rd Asian Youth Games in October 2025.

Meet the Vietnamese Team

Led by Tống Ngọc Hòa, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the team is comprised of four promising fighters ready to make their mark on the international stage.

  • Nguyễn Đình Huy: Competing in the men's 65kg traditional MMA category.

  • Lăng Quốc Cường: Fighting in the men's 55kg modern MMA division.

  • Vương Trí Hải: Stepping into the cage in the men's 50kg modern MMA division.

  • Triệu Thu Thủy: Representing Vietnam in the women's 45kg modern MMA division.

These four young martial artists have been training rigorously and are committed to showcasing their skills and representing Vietnam with pride at the Khalifa Sports City Arena.

A Growing Sport in Vietnam and Asia

Vietnam has been an active participant in the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) since its founding. This is not the first time Vietnamese fighters have shown their mettle in a continental event. In 2023, a team of four Vietnamese fighters competed at the Asian championships and brought home an impressive haul of one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

The Asian Mixed Martial Arts Youth Championship is more than just a competition; it's a platform for the next generation of athletes to demonstrate their discipline and dedication. As AMMA President Gordon Tang stated, it's a "celebration of youth, discipline and the unifying power of sport across cultures."

With a strong history and a promising lineup of young fighters, Vietnam is poised to achieve new heights in the world of mixed martial arts.
