HÀ NỘI – The future of Vietnamese football is looking bright! The Vietnam U16 girls’ national team has successfully secured their place in the semifinals of the ASEAN U16 Girls’ Championship 2025 after a hard-fought win on August 25.
In a thrilling match against Myanmar at the Sriwedari Stadium in Surakarta, Indonesia, the Vietnamese girls showcased their determination and composure, winning the game 2-0.
A Penalty-Kick Masterclass
The first half of the match was a tense affair, with both teams unable to break the deadlock. However, the second half saw Vietnam take control. The breakthrough came in the 69th minute when Lê Thị Hồng Thái calmly converted a penalty kick, giving Vietnam the crucial lead.
Just before the final whistle, Vietnam was awarded another penalty. After an earlier missed attempt, Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Anh stepped up to the spot once more. This time, she made no mistake, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and sealing the 2-0 victory for Vietnam.
Semifinal Showdown: Vietnam vs. Thailand
With this impressive win, Vietnam now moves on to face a familiar rival in the semifinals. Thailand, who dominated their Group C match against Singapore with a 7-0 victory, will be Vietnam's next opponent.
